How to Fix a Leaky Faucet

A leaky faucet is often caused by a worn cartridge, and is one of the most common home issues in Ontario homes. Luckily, it’s usually easy to fix without calling a plumber.

Step‑by‑Step Fix

  1. Turn off the water supply under the sink.
  2. Plug the drain so small parts don’t fall in.
  3. Remove the faucet handle using a screwdriver.
  4. Carefully unscrew the old cartridge, turning counter clockwise
  5. Buy similar replacement cartridge at Hardware store
  6. Install the new cartridge and tighten everything back.

When to Call a Pro– If the faucet still leaks after replacing the cartridge, the valve seat may be damaged. At that point a new set of taps and/ or a plumber might be required
